The Passing Room has begun streaming concerts twice a month! Put together by Abigail Johnson and I, The Passing Room will be hosting performers from across the world as a virtual concert venue. Archived concerts can be found at The Passing Room Youtube Channel and recent concerts will be archived on twitch.tv/thepassingroom.
Artist-In-Residence at Chateau D’Orquevaux (Postponed to 2021)
It’s my pleasure to announce that I will be a 2021 Artist-in-Residence at Chateau D’Orquevaux in Champagne, France alongside Abigail Marie Johnson. The Chateau d'Orquevaux Artist Residency emphasizes the human experience and the creative process. The residency creates an environment for the artist in their quest for personal growth and artistic expression--while reinforcing that the end product is not necessarily the principal focus.
Originally, the residency was scheduled for August 2020 but due to the COVID-19 crisis, had to be rescheduled to 2021.
Composer-Performer Residence at Westben 2020
I am thrilled to announce that I am a part of the Westben Performer-Composer Residency of 2020. Westben’s Performer-Composer Residency is an international gathering of creative risk-takers whose practice involves some combination of both composition and performance. It is an intensive 6-day collaborative workshop culminating in a final performance - deeply woven into the beautiful rolling hills of Canada’s Northumberland County. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the opportunity to meet with the amazing individuals in person cannot happen but we have come together online to create some amazing works this summer.
Disintegration Project
The Disintegration Project was created using a Marantz tape machine, a single cassette, and a contact microphone. The first track is the sound of the tape machine recording onto the tape, then each track is a process done to the physical tape.
My intention is to send casettes of the tracks to other artists, so they may disintegrate the tape with their own processes. Feel free to message me if you would like a cassette of the original track to disintegrate
Electroacoustic Ensemble by the CalArts Electroacoustic Ensemble 2020
Led by the incredible Sarah Belle Reid, the CalArts Electroacoustic Ensemble created an hour and a half album of separately improvised graphic scores that came together to create this album. I had the pleasure of performing on tracks 11 and 16 while also creating the score for track 12. The album is available for free on Bandcamp.com.
Press Start - An Interactive Installation in the WaveCave Gallery at CalArts (2020)
Press Start is an interactive installation that creates both an audio and visual experience for audiences. Two PlayStation 4 controllers will be placed in the center of the room on a pedestal with controller instructions reminiscent of video game manuals in the early 2000’s. One or two performers work together to perform improvised works on the controllers, either following guided button combinations or discovering sounds and visuals on their own
Composing in the Wilderness: Kayaking Adventure (2019)
I am honored to have been chosen for the 2019 Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival’s Composing in the Wilderness trip. Led by adventurer-composer Nathan Lincoln-DeCusatis and designed for experienced acoustic or electroacoustic composers who want a more immersive backcountry experience, this field course will take nine participants on a week-long sea kayaking trip in spectacular Prince William Sound. Upon returning, the participants will have a couple of months to complete their pieces before the culminating concert takes place at Federal Hall National Memorial in New York City on November 22, 2019.
Happy Composers Commission Project (2019)
I am incredibly excited to begin working with Carlos Cordero and the Inversion Ensemble from Austin, Texas conducted by Trevor Shaw. The Happy Composer Commission is an educational project to commission new choral pieces from composers in development. Through Happy Composer, new composers will have the experience of creating a commissioned piece for choir with the guidance of composer Carlos Cordero.
Summit Ridge Duo Collaboration (2019)
In the Fall of 2019, I will be working with my friends and colleagues, The Summit Ridge Duo. I look forward to working with their unique instrumentation. The Summit Ridge Duo is a violin and percussion duo motivated to bring music and art to wide audiences. Kelsey Broker (violin) and Ben Shaheen (percussion) are currently pursuing their Master's in music performance at The Ohio State University.
